Kava is a root tea made from the roots of the kava kava plant (piper methysticum) It has been consumed for hundreds of generations in the South Pacific Islands, including Hawaii for ceremonial, recreational and conflict resolution purposes. Traditionally, kava is made from straining water through ground kava root to form a tea. We produce our kava tea in house from literally the finest kava root we can find (not just a marketing tactic), it comes directly from the islands of Fiji and Vanuatu to name a couple.
To sum it up, kava is known as kava kava, or it's biological name Piper Methysticum. It is a relative of pepper plants, and sometimes even has a slightly spicy taste. Kava isn't meant to be savored, it is mean to be drank quickly. The active ingredients that produce the relaxing effects* are known as kavalactones. The kava plant grows as a shrub in tropical conditions, the leaves are removed, the roots are peeled, ground and dried. We then mix it with water to produce our kava tea
Kava is not recommended for persons younger than 18 years of age (we will not serve under 18), women pregnant or breastfeeding, or in conjunction with alcohol or drugs. Do not consume kava after alcohol or with alcohol or drugs.
